NEHU M.Phil and Ph.D. Admission

The University offers M.Phil program in English, Political Science and History. The applicants for the M.Phil program are required to score 55% marks or with a minimum of ‘B’ grade (CGPA) in the 7 point UGC scale at the Master’s degree level.

The University offers Ph.D. in various disciplines like Economics, Commerce, History, Political Science, Hindi, English, Hindi, Education etc. To get admission to the Ph.D. program, the candidate must possess Master’s degree with 55% marks in the concerned subject.

NEHU Scholarship/Fellowship

 Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) scholarships are awarded to those candidates who have cleared NET and have obtained 55% marks in the Master’s degree. NEHU also awards postgraduate scholarships to those candidates who have passed Honors degrees with minimum 55% marks.

Key point: The candidate is not eligible for any scholarship if he is in full-time employment.

NEHU Student’s Aid Fund

Financial aid is given to poor and meritorious students under Students’ Aid Fund. The aid-fund includes payment of tuition fees, examination fees, purchase of textbooks, stationery expenses, hostel charges and emergency medical expenses and other genuine charges.

Other Facilities

Accommodation- At the Shillong campus, there are total 22 hostels to accommodate students. All hostels provide mess facility and well-equipped rooms.

Library- The University has the Central library at the Shillong campus. The library facilitates students with a tremendous volume of books and journals.

Transport Facility- NEHU has its own transport system to facilitate students. The students have to pay the nominal fee to avail this facility.

Counselling and Placement Cell- The University has Counselling and Placement Cell (CPC), it provides career guidance and counsels students. The cell assists students by inviting national and international companies to provide training.

Candidates shall be eligible for admission to the first year of the Bachelor’s Degree programme in Architecture if she/he has secured a minimum of at least 50% marks in aggregate at the Higher Secondary or equivalent (10+2) level with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects of the examination. North Eastern Hill University offers nine courses at UG level which include BA, B.Sc, BA LLB (Hons) as its flagship programmes. The university also provides the option of distance learning for Certificate, Diploma and B.Ed (Special Education) courses.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have passed 10+2 in any discipline from a recognized board are considered eligible to get admission in BA/ B.Sc. courses.

Students who have passed 10+2 with at least 50% marks are considered eligible for BA LLB (Honors) course.

The university reserves seats forwards of Ex-servicemen, outstanding sports person and the economically backward domicile of Meghalaya.

Selection Criteria

Admission in BA/ BSc/ B.Ed. course is given on the basis of candidates’ merit in the qualifying examination.

 BA LLB admission is done through the written test conducted by the department. Admission shall be made according to the merit list prepared by the department based on the performance of candidates in a written test conducted by the department, subject to the fulfillment of all other criteria.

The standard of admission test, if any, shall be of class 12 (10 +2 system) or its equivalent. The test will be of 2-hour duration with multiple choice/objective/short answer type questions and shall cover broadly four areas: General English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed graduation in any discipline with minimum 55% marks(45% for ST/SC candidates) are considered eligible for MA, M.Sc, MJMC, M.Com, MBA, MTTM, M.LISc and PGPD-SEDE courses.

The minimum eligibility requirement of M.Ed. program is B.Ed. with minimum 55% marks. All SC/ST candidates are eligible for the relaxation of 5%.

Those who have done LLB with minimum 55% marks (50% for the reserved category) are eligible to apply for LLM admission.  

Similarly, for MCA program candidates with BCA/ BSc (CS/ IT) or any equivalent degree with at least 50% (45% for SC/ ST category) marks and have studied Mathematics at 10+2/ Degree level are considered eligible.

The university reserves 30% seats in each course for open category, 50% for SC/ ST category, 3% for physically challenged candidates, 10% for the wards and spouses of NEHU employees, 7% university quota for Backward domicile of Meghalaya, sports person, wards/ widows of armed force personnel, ex-servicemen.

Admission to Kashmiri Migrants, Children of Indian workers in Gulf countries, and Foreign students is given against supernumerary seats through the Central Committee for Admission of Foreign Students.

Selection Criteria

Admission to MA, M.Sc, M.Ed., MJMC, M.Com and PGPD-SEDE is given on the basis of the candidates’ merit in the qualifying examination.

For M.LIB.I.Sc Selection will be based on admission test of 50 marks and relevant NEHU criteria.Candidates with a 3-year degree course (Majors) in any subject securing an aggregate of 50% (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST).

MTTM courses admission is done considering the score obtained in MAT and performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview round.

Admission to MCA and LLM courses is done on the basis of their merit in the qualifying examination, group discussion and personal interview.

The university offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses at the doctoral level with 3 and 18 specializations respectively.

The University offers an M.Phil program in English, Political Science and History. The applicants for the M.Phil program are required to score 55% marks or with a minimum of ‘B’ grade (CGPA) in the 7 point UGC scale at the Master’s degree level.

How to Apply at NEHU Shillong?

Application Procedure:

Students applying courses/programmes in Shillong as well in Tura Campus are requested to apply online on payment of INR. 800/- and INR. 400/- (for SC/ST category) and for Ph.D. Programme INR. 500/- and INR. 250/- (for SC/ST category) and the payment will be online using Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking through SBI and HDFC Bank. The admission fee is not refundable.

Online application shall be closed at 11:59 p.m. on the specified date mentioned above. For other details, the candidates may consult the prospectus of the University.

The process for NEHU Shillong admission 2021 is completely online. For registration, candidates need to follow the steps outlined below:
