Gour Banga University, Malda established in the year 2008 under the West Bengal Act XXVI of 2007 and it is a State Aided University. It offers BA, B.Sc., B.Com. BCA, B.Ed. and LLB at the undergraduate level. The university has 23 postgraduate departments offering MA, M.Sc., M.Com., MLIS and LLM courses along with PhD programs in multiple disciplines. Admission in the various programs is done based on merit based on the qualifying marks in the previous exam as well as admission to PG and PhD courses is done based on the entrance exam followed by an interview. The application mode is both offline and online.

Gour Banga University, Malda was founded on March 10, 2008. The University is affiliated to University Grants Commission and National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The University has 38 affiliated colleges which has 25 general degree colleges with enrolment of 1.5 Lakhs. The Mode of Application in the University is both Online and Offline and the Basic Admission Criteria is through various national entrance tests and Merit of class 12. The University offers BA, B.Sc., B.Com. BCA, B.Ed. and LLB courses at the UG Level and offers MA, M.Sc., M.Com., MLIS and LLM programs at the PG level. In addition to it, the University also offers PhD at the Research Level.

  • For BCA, the Candidate must have passed class 12th from any board of Education having Mathematics/Computer Science/Computer Applications as one of the Elective subjects.
  • For LLB, the Candidate must have HSC degree with minimum 45% marks in it.
  • Admission to B.Sc., B.Ed., LLB, B.Com. and BCA will be done on the basis of merit.
  • Admission to BA will be done on the basis of first-cum-first.
  • For MA, the Candidate must have done BA in the same subject with at least 45% marks.
  • For M.Sc., the Candidate must have done B.Sc. in the same subject with at least 50% marks.
  • For MLIS, the Candidate must have a BLIS degree with at least 50% marks.
  • For LLM, the Candidate must have done LLB with at least 50% marks.
  • For M.Com. the Candidate must have done a bachelor’s in the relevant stream.
  • Admission to all PG Courses will be given on Merit, Counselling Basis and Entrance Tests.
  • For Ph.D., the Candidate must have a PG Degree with a minimum of 55% marks. Candidates with a regular degree of M.Phil. cannot apply for this program.
  • Admission to Ph.D. will be given through the Entrance Exam and Interview.
  • SC/ST Candidates will be eligible to get 5% relaxation in the aggregate marks and in the marks of the relevant subject.
  • For BA, the Specializations are Bengali, Arabic, English, Education, Hindi, Geography, Philosophy, Political Science, History, Economics, Mass Communication and Journalism, Sanskrit, Sociology.

  • B.Com. has the only Specialization of Commerce.

How to Apply for UGB 2022

Selection for Under-Graduate Courses will be based on merit and Post-Graduate Courses will be based on Merit and Entrance Tests. Selection for Doctorate Courses will be done on the basis of Entrance Exam and Interview.

Application Process

Online Application:

  • The Application form will be available on the official website of the University.There will be application form for all courses.
  • Firstly, fill all the personal & educational details required in the registration form. SMS will be received regarding ID and Password on Phone Number.
  • Login through the ID and choose the Course type. The registration fees would be INR 200 and late fine INR 300.
  • You will get the Application form.
  • Fill all the necessary details carefully and submit all the necessary documents required in it.
  • The Application fees should be submitted along with the Application fees. For UG course the fee for general category is INR 700. For PG course the fee is INR 400 and fee for reserved category is INR 150. For the doctorate course the fee is INR 500 and fee for reserved category is INR 300.
  • The Candidates have to keep the acknowledgement slip, challan receipt, Printed Copy of Application form for future use.

Offline Application:

  • The Application form will be available in the University. For UG course the fee for general category is INR 700 + INR 40. For PG course the fee is INR 400 and fee for reserved category is INR 150. For the doctorate course the fee is INR 500 and fee for reserved category is INR 300.
