National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Ernakulam is a State Law University and one of the reputed universities in Kerala state which comes in Kochi city of Ernakulam district. It was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. It was earlier known as National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS). It is situated in Kochi - the industrial capital of Kerala and the seat of the Kerala High Court, a 10-acre plot in the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park at Kalamassery. The university provides PG, PG Diploma, Integrated BA-LLB, Ph.D., and Certificate level Programs under its curriculum.

The NUALS is MoU’ with the following universities for promoting and facilitating academic and educational exchange:

  • University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland.
  • Department of Law, Macquarie University, Australia.
  • Masaryk University, Czech Republic

Library

The NUALS library has a collection of over 13,944 volumes covering a wide range of general and special subjects consisting of textbooks reference books, back volumes of journals, reports, etc. The library subscribes to several leading law journals, both Indian and foreign and also a number of newspapers and magazines.

IT Infrastructure

It has a campus-wide wireless network for the student community. It has established a 100 MB bandwidth leased line connectivity from BSNL broadband.

National University of Advanced Legal Studies is a Uni-disciplinary university located in Kochi that offers a diverse range of legal education at undergraduate & postgraduate level. The courses offered by the university are BA LLB, LLM, PG Diploma, and Ph.D. 

BA LLB is a 5 years program offered by the University under undergraduate education. Whereas LLM is a one-year long PG course. The University offers LLM programs in two specializations. 

For BA LLB, candidates are required to pass 10+2 examinations with valid marks. For LLM, a Bachelor's degree in the relevant field is compulsory. 

All the admissions at NUALS are strictly entrance-based. The selection of the UG & PG courses will be done on the basis of the marks of CLAT (centralized exam for law). Kerala students have a reservation of 49% across all categories.
