University of Agricultural Sciences(UAS), Dharwad is a premier institute of Agricultural Science, was established in 1986 under section 3 of the Karnataka Universities of Agricultural Sciences Act, 1963. It began College of Agriculture in 1947 at Dharwad. The university aims to provide for undergraduates and postgraduate instructions in agriculture and other allied branches of learning.

Research
The research programmes of the University are of three kinds viz., basic, applied and strategic oriented towards solving location specific and farmer-centric problems.
The University has so far released 169 varieties / hybrids of different crops including cereals, oilseeds, pulses, commercial crops, fodder crops, horticulture and plantation crops
In addition, 261 Crop Protection Technologies and 278 Crop Production technologies have also been recommended
The research needs of the farmers are catered through 30 Agricultural Research Stations spread across diverse agro-ecosystems, 26 AICRPs and 214 externally funded ad-hoc projects

University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad (UASD) was established by the Govt. of Karnataka with the mission of imparting higher education and promoting research in agriculture, forestry, food science, agree marketing and home science.
The university offers graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in the above mentioned fields. While the undergraduate programs are offered at four campuses of the university, namey, Dharwad, Bijapur, Hanumanamatti and Sirsi in five degree programs viz., B.Sc. (Agri.); B.Sc. (Ag. Maco); B.Sc. (For.); B.H.Sc. and B.Sc. (Food Technology); postgraduate programs are taught at three campuses of the university, namely, Dharwad (M.Sc. & Ph.D. in Agriculture and Home Science), Bijapur (M.Sc. in Agriculture) and Sirsi (M.Sc. in Forestry).

Candidate should have passed two years PUC science examination which is conducted by Department of Pre-University Education, Government of Karnataka OR he/she must have completed an examination holding equivalent value with the subject combination of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and a science subject
OR
He/she has passed two years PUC science examination of the Department of Pre-University Education, Government of Karnataka with Inter-Agriculture as a main subject.
Note: If he/she is a Kashmiri migrant applying for admission, the directions issued by the Government of Karnataka will be followed. If he/she has cleared ICAR, the admission will be governed by the guidelines of ICAR. He/she does not have to take the CET examination which is conducted by the Government of Karnataka.
The admission is made on the basis of academic performance of the candidate in PCB in II year PUC Science examination.
The admission procedure is subjected to the verification process of original marks card and other details mentioned in the application such as seat availability, fee payment by the last date issued by the university, registration of courses by the last date to do the same, submission of Transfer Certificate by the candidate from the previous institute.
The admission procedure is strictly merit based subjected to fulfillment of the above mentioned guidelines, except for the reserved seats meant for agriculturists or children / a ward of agriculturists and ICAR nominees. In case of unfilled reserved seats, these shall admit students from the general category, again based upon the above set guidelines.

The postgraduate programs have an essential minimum duration of 4 semesters. The maximum duration of the same, as per the university guidelines will be eight semesters, counted from the student’s date of admission.
For post graduate programs, there are also seats offered on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination such as 3 reserved seats are offered to the children of Ex-Serviceman/Defence/Freedom-fighter, 3% seats for physically handicapped as per the norms laid down by the Government, one seat for candidate who performed exceptionally well during their undergraduation in sports and games, NCC,NSS and Cultural / Literary/ Fine arts activities.

The postgraduate programs have an essential minimum duration of six semesters. This can be extended to a maximum of 12 semesters without any break, counted from the student’s date of admission.
