Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is a Private University located in East Sikkim, Sikkim and was established in the year 1992. The University is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). SMU is also accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Sikkim Manipal University Distance Education offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Diploma, M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses through SMIT and SMIMS. Admissions to Sikkim Manipal University courses is done on the basis of Entrance Exams conducted by SMU. Sikkim Manipal University offers three-year full-time M.Phil. program to candidates having Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with at least 55% marks in aggregate whereas, for admission to three-year full-time Ph.D. research course, candidates should hold a Master’s degree/ M.Phil. in relevant field with minimum 55% marks in aggregate. Final selection of candidates is done on the basis of:
Entrance Test followed by Personal Interview conducted by SMU.
UGC (NET)/ CSIR (JRF) Examination (for Ph.D.)
SLET/ GATE/ Teacher Fellowship holders (for Ph.D.).
Direct award of Fellowship by DST (INSPIRE), ICMR or any such national agency (Ph.D.).
Any other equivalent test.

Established in 1995, Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is located in Gangtok, Sikkim. The university is affiliated to AIU, DEC as well as All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Sikkim Manipal University offers a wide range of UG, PG and Research level courses in the streams of Science, Engineering & Technology, Commerce, Management Studies, Medical and Health Sciences.
The admission procedure for Sikkim Manipal University differs for different courses. For admission to some courses, the university conducts separate entrance tests, interviews and group discussion rounds in order to evaluate the candidates, whereas admission is purely based on the merit of the candidates for other courses.
For B.Tech, candidates should have passed 10+2/equivalent with 50% marks in PCM.
Candidates will be shortlisted for B.Tech course based on JEE Main / MAHE-OET or SMIT Offline Test score.
In case of Lateral Entry B.Tech, selection will be done on the basis of qualifying degree marks and entrance test scores.
For BBA/BCA/B Sc IT, candidates should have passed 10+2 in any stream with 50% marks. Admission will be done on merit basis.
Selection of candidates for MCA/M.Sc (IT) will be done on the basis of Entrance Test conducted by SMIT.
In case of MBA, the candidate should have passed Bachelors degree in any discipline with 50% marks.
Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of MAT & CAT score / University Entrance Test and GDs/PIs.
Admission to M.Tech is done on the basis of GATE/MAHE-OET/Entrance Test scores.
For B.Com/BA admission, the candidate should have passed 10+2 in the relevant stream. Admission will be done on merit basis.
In case of M.Com and M.Sc, the candidate should have passed bachelors degree in the relevant discipline.
For MBBS admission, the candidate should have passed 10+2/equivalent with 50% marks in PCB.
Admission to MBBA and MD/MS courses will be done through NEET scores.
Candidates will be shortlisted to B.Sc (Nursing), M.Sc (Nursing) BPT, MPT and MHA will be done on qualifying examination merit basis.
In case of PhD, candidates should have passed PG degree in the relevant discipline. Admission will be done on the basis of University Entrance Test/NET scores.

Scholarship
Following Scholarships offered by Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT):
- 30% concession in the Course fee (for candidates scoring 90% and above in PCM (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics).
- 10% concession in the Course fee (for candidates scoring between 80% - 90% in PCM (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics).
- 75% concession in the tuition fees (for students sponsored by Govt. of Sikkim.)
Note: No scholarship will be offered to the Candidates admitted under Sikkim Govt. quota.
Following Scholarships offered by Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Science (SIMS):
- 50% concession in the tuition fee (for candidates taking admission in MD Physiology & Biochemistry).
- Scholarship amount of Rs. 3,90,500/- will be adjusted against the tuition fee of the academic session.
Stipend offered by Sikkim Manipal University:
- All MD/ MS students will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 26,000 in first year, Rs. 28,000 in second year and Rs. 30,000 in third year,
- MBBS students will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 7,500,
- B. Sc Nursing student will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 2000 and
- BPT students will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 1500 during the period of internship.
