Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) was established in 1989 by the Dept. of Science and Technology of the Govt. of India, is a multidisciplinary research institute located in Jakkur, Bangalore.

The mission of the Institute is to undertake and encourage at the frontiers of science and engineering world-class scientific research and training. It offers PG Diploma, MS (Research), Ph.D. as well as integrated Ph.D. courses in the Science field. The courses offered by the institute are awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University, at JNCASR, students get an intellectual atmosphere and an opportunity to interact with scientists from famous research institutes all over the world.

JNCASR Admissions
Applicants seeking admission in any postgraduate, doctoral program or PG diploma course need to:

Enter the correct information and attach required self-attested documents
Submit the print out of the completed form to the following address

JNCASR Written Test
Candidates must wait and prepare for the entrance test conducted by the institute, the center will release admit cards before a few weeks of entrance test. National level JAM, GATE, JEST, CSIR-NET, & ICMR qualifiers can exempt JNCASR Entrance Test, such candidates will be selected on the basis of their marks scored in the concerned exam and personal interview.

JNCASR Selection Procedure
Ph.D. Admission

Candidates applying for the course will be selected on the basis of their marks in GATE / CSIR-UGC(JRF) / JEST / INSPIRE
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for the Interview rounds conducted by the University.
Integrated Ph.D. Admission

Selection of the programs will be through Joint Admission Test (JAM) or JNCASR written test followed by an Interview conducted by the institute itself.

M.S (Research) Admission

Selection to this course in several specializations will be on the basis of marks scored in qualifying exams and GATE /JEST or UGC or CSIR NET -JRF / ICMR – JRF /DBT JRF/INSPIRE -JRF.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview rounds.
PG Diploma Admission

The selection of diploma courses is done on the basis of marks obtained in the JNCASR Entrance followed by an Interview round conducted by JNCASR.

JNCASR Scholarships
The institute in association with the Department of Science and Technology invites applications from exceptionally talented and motivated students of India in Engineering and Science for Summer Research Fellowships.

B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc graduates will get INR 8000 in the first two years and INR 9000 in the subsequent years
M.E/M.Tech/M.B.B.S/ or B.E/B.Tech with two-year work experience will get INR 9500 in the first two years and INR 10,000 in the subsequent years.
Integrated Ph.D. and B.Sc. graduates will get INR 4000 in all the years

JNCASR Facilities
Library: The Library is well equipped & maintained. It has a huge collection of 614 books/ monographs. The total number of books has risen to over 22,000. The Library subscribed to around 110 national/ international scientific and technical journals. The online catalog is updated continuously and the total number of machine-readable records now stands at over 13,000.
Guest House: The guest house is named Jawahar visitors' house (JVH) and is located at the grounds of Gymkhana of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
Machine shop: The equipment has been maintained at the workshop. There are many machines kept and maintained here like a glass-blowing machine, lathe machine, drilling machine, welding machine, grinding machine, spot welding machine and cutting machine (for sheets only) and filing facilities, etc.
Animal Facility: The JNCASR animal facility is positioned at a very secluded and private corner of the campus. It is very away from pollution and noise so the animals are given the best of care and protection.
Hostel: The hostel offers single room accommodations and some apartments for married candidates. Hostel facilities include twin-sharing bathrooms, washing machines, wi-fi, gym, guest rooms, and large LCD TVs.
Veeco Lab: Veeco Instruments Inc, a leading supplier of instrumentation to the nanoscience community has established the Veeco Nanotechnology Laboratory. The lab is jointly operated with the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research.
Computer lab: Computer lab is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of computer network facilities, management of storage and flow of information. It provides both windows and Linux based machines used by users from diverse backgrounds. The center is connected to the internet via 100Mbps + 20Mbps leased lines.
Sports: Sports are very important for the physical development and growth of a student. There are many indoor and outdoor games provided for the students. The indoor games include Carom, Table Tennis Chess and Scrabble. The outdoor games are Cricket, Basketball, and Volleyball that the students can play.

JNCASR is a multidisciplinary research institute funded by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. It offers PG Diploma, MS (by Research), Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. programs in the field of Engineering and Science. JNCASR follows a two-step online application process for all the courses offered.

Candidates with a valid score in GATE/ GPAT/ JEST/ UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ ICMR JRF/ DBT JRF or INSPIRE JRF are eligible to apply for MS by Research and Ph.D. programs. Final admission is based on the interview conducted by JNCASR.
For Integrated Ph.D., JNCASR conducts a Written Test followed by an Interview at Bangalore. JAM qualified candidates are also eligible to apply.
Admission to PG Diploma is based on merit in the qualifying examination. Final admission will be offered on the basis of

JNCASR Integrated Ph.D. & MS by Research Admission 2022
JNCASR offers Integrated Ph.D. and Ph.D. programs in various disciplines. Integrated Ph.D. is offered in Chemistry and Physics Material Unit (CPMU), New Chemistry Unit (NCU), Evolutionary & Organismal Biology Unit (EOBU) and Molecular Biological & Genetics Unit (MBGU).

Integrated Ph.D. admission is based on a valid score in JAM or JNCASR’s written test followed by an interview for the shortlisted candidates. Admission to Ph.D. is granted on the basis of valid score in GATE/ CSIR-UGC (JRF) /JEST / INSPIRE/ any other equivalent national level examination. Shortlisted students need to qualify the interview round conducted by JNCASR.

JNCASR also offers MS (by Research) degree in two different specializations for the duration of one-year. The application process starts in the month of February and selection process is done on the basis of merit in GATE / JEST or UGC or CSIR - NET-JRF/ ICMR - JRF / DBT-JRF or INSPIRE-JRF. All the eligible candidates are invited for the interview round conducted by JNCASR.

MS (Research) students will receive scholarships of INR 25,000. A student grant of up to INR 40000 is provided for funding the travel expenses to national and international conferences

JNCASR PG Diploma Admission 2022
JNCASR also offers PG Diploma in Science Education (PGDSE) and Materials Science (PGDMS) courses for the duration of one-year. The application process for these courses starts in the month of June and selection process is done on the basis marks in the qualifying examination. Final admission is subject to the performance in interview and academic record.

In special cases, teachers working in the vicinity of Bangalore may be allowed for PGDSE program and in such cases; the course duration will be two years.
