Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) is an autonomous research institute located in Bhurai, Bhopal. The institute was established in the year 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, (MHRD). IISER Bhopal was ranked 61st in the overall ranking of NIRF 2022. The Institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs in the field of science. Admission to these courses is done on the basis of the national level entrance exam namely JEE Advanced
IISER Bhopal Courses
Following are the courses offered by the Institute at different levels:
Course 1: BS-MS (Dual Degree)
Duration: 5-years | Full-time
Eligibility: Intermediate graduate with science stream from a recognized board

Course 2: BS Program
Duration: 4-years | Full-time

IISER Bhopal Admissions
The admission process of the Institute is managed by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC). The candidates seeking admission will require to meet the basic eligibility requirements as per the Insitute.

BS-MS (Dual Degree) Admission
Eligible candidates can take admission through any of the 3 channels: Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY); Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Advanced); and State and Central Boards Channel (SCB). Given below are more details regarding the admission procedure:
- Candidates securing a rank within 10000 in the Common Rank List of JEE Advanced 2019 can apply.
- Students applying through the SCB channel will have to appear on the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). This test is conducted at various centres across the country.
- Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship are eligible to apply for admission. They will be required to meet the cutoff criteria as per their board of examination.
Integrated Ph.D. Admission
Selection is made on the basis of the Entrance Exam and Personal Interview conducted by the Institute.
Reservations
Following seats are reserved as prescribed by the Insitute:
- 15% and 7.5% of total seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe respectively.
- 27% of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to Other Backward Class (OBC)
- 3% seats are reserved for students who are Physically Disabled category.

IISER Bhopal Scholarships
The Institute provides a number of scholarships and fellowships to deserving and meritorious students. Given below are the details for the same:
- Students taking admission in the Institute will be offered a scholarship of INR 60,000 + INR 20,000 per annum. This will be sponsored by INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research).
- Scholarship prize of INR 1000 per month will be awarded to the best student studying in the 1st and 2nd semester of the first year.
- Students admitted to Ph.D. program will receive a fellowship of INR 10,000 per month.
IISER Bhopal Placements
The training and placement cell of the Institute helps the students to fulfill their aspirations. It also organizes seminars, pre-placement talks, expert talks to acquaint the student with the placement processes. To talk about recent placement statistics, 87% of students in BS-MS program are placed in reputed organizations and companies.
Under the UG Domain, IISER Bhopal offers BS and BS-MS (Dual Degree) programs and under the PG domain, it offers PhD and Integrated PhD research programs. The admission process is managed by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC), headed by a Chairman and having members from all IISERs.

Candidates applying through the SCB channel are required to appear in IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) followed by an interview to secure admission in BS-MS (dual degree) program.
Admission to Integrated Ph.D. is done on the basis of a valid score in JEST (for Physics) and JAM (Mathematics and Chemistry). The selection procedure for admission to the Ph.D. program will be based on the performance of the candidate in the interviews.

IISER also offers BS-MS (Dual Degree) to students who have passed class XII. The process of admissions in all IISERs is managed by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC), headed by a Chairman and having members from all IISERs.
The specializations offered by BS-MS (Dual Degree) are Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics.

Selection Criteria
The admission to IISER BS and BS-MS is done through different channels-
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY): Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship are eligible to apply for admissions.
Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced): Candidates in the General category securing a rank within 10000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Advanced are eligible to apply. For candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PD), their category rank would be used. Additional cut off criteria may be applicable.
State and Central Boards: Students who have passed (10+2) level with science stream during the current or previous year with marks equal or above the cut off percentage in their respective boards are eligible to apply.
Students applying through the SCB channel will have to appear in IISER Aptitude Test which will be conducted at various centers across the country.

IISER Bhopal Integrated Ph.D. Admission 2022
IISER offers Integrated Ph.D. in 3 specializations in full-time mode. The Institute offers an Integrated Ph.D. program in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Integrated Ph.D. program consists of course work followed by qualifying/comprehensive examination, research work, seminars, and a thesis.
Integrated Ph.D. students from all disciplines will have to register for a minimum of 48-course credits and a minimum of 40 research credits. In order to graduate, they should have a total minimum of 128 credits.

Basic Admission Criteria GATE/UGC-JRF /CSIR-JRF /JEST /JGEEBILS /NET-LS
Ph.D. program consists of course work, qualifying/comprehensive examination, seminars, and a thesis. Ph.D. students will have to register for course work comprising a minimum of 16 to 24 credits and a minimum of 40 research credits. In order to graduate, they should have a total minimum of 96 credits (coursework and research work).
Eligibility Criteria
Candidate should have completed a postgraduate program (M.S./M.Sc./M.Tech. /MBBS) in a discipline relevant to the choice of the Ph.D. program.
Candidate should be preferably not more than 28 years. Age relaxation of 3 years will be given for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST/PD/Female applicants.
Selection Criteria
Candidates are selected on the basis of score obtained in GATE and/or have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET)/Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR-JRF), University Grants Commission-Junior Research Fellowship (UGC-JRF) or other equivalent examinations.
A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, will be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD categories.

IISER Bhopal Scholarship
KVPY candidates admitted to IISER will draw fellowship as per KVPY norms.
A limited number of INSPIRE scholarship will be available to who are admitted through JEE Advanced and SCB channel as per the norms of DST INSPIRE.
All admitted students in Integrated Ph.D. will receive a fellowship of INR 10,000 per month till the end of the third year (subject to fulfilling the minimum CPI requirements).
All the selected candidates of Ph.D. will be eligible to receive the JRF Fellowship as per the funding agency norms.
