Description
Bharathiar University is a state University established by Tamil Nadu Government under the Act of Bharathiar University 1981. It is accredited with A Grade by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.11, running with 14 major schools and 37 departments. At present Bharathiar University has 132 affiliated colleges.
The University offers admission to various PG and Doctoral programmes through either state or national level entrance or through direct admission. More than 2100+ students can be enrolled for PG courses during one academic year.

Bharathiar University Admission
The applications are accepted either online or offline for admission to Bharathiar University.
Offline Registration:
Students can procure an application form in person from the university office by his/her community certificate along with the request for application.
Candidate shall also send a self addressed envelope (28 x 13 cms) affixing Rs. 60/- stamp along with the application form
Candidates can also download the application form available at the university website and submit it upon completion along with a DD for INR 400.
Application forms along with the DD, completed in all respects, must reach the Professor and Head of Department.
Online Application:
Candidates can also register online for admission to the university courses through the official website. Candidates should possess the following pre-requisites while registering online:
Valid Email ID.
Soft Copy Passport size Photograph
Demand Draft of INR 400 as application fee for OC / BC / MBC / DNC candidates.
Demand Draft of INR 200 as application fee in case SC / ST candidates, on production of attested photocopy of community certificate.

Bharathiar University Facilities
The following facilities are available for candidates pursuing higher education at Bharathiar University:
Campus:
Located 12 km away from Coimbatore, in the foothills of Western Ghats in a campus size of 778.89 acres. It is well connected for commute, sports facilities, post offices, etc.
Library:
With a collection of over 1,90,000 books, the library at Bharathiar University offers students with a wide variety of references. The library has the system of catalogue, recently quipped with RFID and various electronic resources.
Computing Facilities:
There’s 1 GBPS broadband connectivity at its Internet Centre which also includes web camera, photocopying, printing facilities.. Each department has private access to LAN and WiFi for its respective students and faculty members.
Sports Facilities:
The University has a Health Centre and Sports Stadium for students and faculty members. Also including a spa, gym and a swimming pool.
- Selection to the PG courses is based either on qualifying marks (direct admission) or on the basis of performance in an entrance examination conducted by the university.
- TANCET marks are considered for MBA course and admissions will be made through centralized counseling conducted by Government College of Technology,Coimbatore.
- MCA admissions including 17 other courses like M.Sc, B.P.Ed, M.P.Ed, MA in English Literature, etc are based on CET scores. Entrance is conducted by respective Departments of Bharathiar University.
- Admission to M.Sc in Medical Biotechnology for DBT Sponsored candidates is based on GAT-B entrance scores.
- Around 37 courses including PG Diploma courses in various disciplines admissions are based on merit. The direct admission provision is as per the fulfillment of the basic eligibility criteria as well.
- Interested candidates can apply through online or download the application form available at the university website and submit it upon completion along with the required fee to the head of the concerned department.
Admission to the university programmes is done directly on first come first serve basis. Application forms and prospectus can be obtained in person or through post from the university centres or downloaded from the university website upon payment of INR 150 through crossed Demand Draft.
Selection Process:
The selection process varies depending on the course applied for. It may a direct one, where candidates either are offered the seats on a first come first serve basis depending on merit and availability, or based on the entrance examination conducted by the University. Certain courses under the university may have interviews as part of the process before finalizing the list of selected candidates. Bharathiar University Scholarships
Following are the Scholarship Programs which are running in the university for the students:
- Government of Tamil Nadu post matric Scholarships (BC-MBC student/scholar candidates)- They should have secured a minimum of 75% of attendance in the previous year of study. The annual income of parents should be below INR 1,00,000/-.
- Higher Educational Special Loan Scholarship (SC-ST Converted Christian students)- Candidates should be staying in the university hostel. An annual income of the parents should be below INR 50,000.
- Government of Indian Scholarship (SC-ST Converted Christian Adi-Dravidar students)- Candidates should have secured a minimum of 75% of attendance in the previous year of study. The annual income of parents should be below INR 1,00,000 for SC and for ST candidates with an annual income below INR 1,08,000.
