SSC JE 2023 Exam Important dates and Update

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has not yet announced the official notification for SSC JE 2023 exam. However, based on the previous year's trends, the tentative important dates for the exam are as follows:

What is SSC JE? 

•  SSC JE 2023 exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the recruitment of Junior Engineers in various government departments and organizations. The exam is held in two stages - Paper-1 and Paper-2.
•  Paper-1 is an online computer-based exam that tests candidates on their general aptitude and engineering-related knowledge. It consists of 200 questions worth 200 marks and is divided into three sections - General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical).
•  Candidates who qualify for Paper-1 are eligible to appear for Paper-2, which is a descriptive test. Paper-2 is a written exam where candidates are required to answer questions related to their respective engineering disciplines.
•  The eligibility criteria for the SSC JE exam requires candidates to possess a diploma or degree in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering. The age limit for the exam is between 18 and 32 years.

SSC JE 2023 Fees and Eligibility

The application fee for the SSC JE 2023 exam is Rs. 100 for general category candidates, while there is no fee for female candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, and other reserved categories.

The eligibility criteria for the SSC JE 2023 exam requires :

•  candidates to have a diploma or degree in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering from a recognized university or institute. 
•  The minimum age limit for the exam is 18 years, while the maximum age limit is 32 years. However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to certain categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and PwD

SSC JE 2023 Exam Pattern 

•  The SSC JE 2023 exam pattern consists of two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2.

•  Paper 1 is a computer-based test and consists of 200 marks with a duration of 2 hours. The paper is divided into three sections - General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering (Civil and Structural/ Electrical/ Mechanical). Each section consists of 50 questions, with each question carrying 1 mark. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.

•  Paper 2 is a descriptive type exam that tests candidates' writing skills in their respective fields of engineering. The paper consists of 300 marks and has a duration of 2 hours.

SSC JE 2023 Selection Process

The selection process for SSC JE 2023 will consist of two stages:

1. Computer-based Examination (Paper-I)

2. Written Examination (Paper II)

Candidates who qualify for Paper-I will be called for Paper II.

•  Paper-I will be a computer-based examination consisting of Objective Type Multiple Choice questions. The exam will be conducted in two parts - General Engineering (Part A) and Engineering Discipline-specific (Part B). The exam duration will be 2 hours and will consist of 200 questions carrying 1 mark each. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
• Paper II will be a descriptive exam consisting of Conventional Type questions. The exam duration will be 2 hours and will consist of 3 sections - General Engineering (Part A), General Engineering (Part B), and Engineering Discipline-specific (Part C). The total mark for Paper II will be 300.

Candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification based on their performance in Paper II. The final selection of candidates will be based on the merit list prepared by SSC based on their performance in Paper II.

SSC JE 2023 Admit card and Result 

The admit card for SSC JE 2023 will be released on the official website of SSC a few weeks before the exam date. Candidates can download the admit card by entering their registration number and date of birth. It is mandatory to carry the admit card to the exam center, along with a valid photo ID proof.
The result of SSC JE 2023 will be declared in stages, based on the different phases of the exam. The result of the Computer Based Test (CBT) will be declared first, followed by the result of the Descriptive Paper (DP). Candidates who qualify for the DP will be called for the Document Verification (DV) stage, and the final result will be based on their performance in all stages of the exam. The result will be declared on the official website of SSC.

SSC JE Scope

SSC JE Salary 

As for the salary, the pay scale for SSC JE is in the range of Rs. 35,400 - Rs. 1,12,400, which is quite decent for an entry-level engineering job in the government sector. However, the salary may vary depending on the organization and the location of the posting. In addition to the basic pay, SSC JE employees are also entitled to various allowances like Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and others, which can increase their overall salary.
