What is JEE Main?

The undergraduate entrance test for B.Tech admission to 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 33 GFTIs is known as JEE Main or the Joint Entrance Examination (Main).In addition, JEE Mains serves as the initial screening test for JEE Advanced admission to 23 IITs.For B.Tech. and B.Arch., NTA conducts JEE Main separately. For admission to B.E. and B.Tech. programs, JEE Main Paper 1 is taken, and JEE Main Paper 2 is taken for admission to B.Arch. and B.Plan. courses separately as JEE Main Paper 2A (B.Arch) and JEE Main Paper 2B (B.Plan.).

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is known as the JEE Main Full Form. In India, the JEE Main is a national-level exam for engineering admission. For admission to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and IITs, CBSE administered the AIEEE and IIT JEE until 2012.

Who will conduct the  JEE Main?

The JEE Apex Board (JAB) will conduct JEE Main . Since 2019, the JEE Main has been administered by NTA, which is now in charge of providing the exam with administrative and logistical support. The formulation of policies, rules, and guidelines is now JAB's responsibility. In addition, JAB is in charge of coordinating with JAB-IIT the administration of the JEE Advanced exam.

JEE Main  Eligibility

JEE Main  Eligibility is released along with the official brochure. Before registering for JEE Main , candidates must make sure to meet all the eligibility requirements. Along with the educational/ academic requirements, candidates must fulfill the age requirement for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on JEE Main scores. 

JEE Main  Age Requirement (Date of Birth)

•       There is no age limit for JEE Main. However, only the candidates who have passed Class 12th in 2021,  or are appearing are eligible irrespective of their age. 
•       However, based on the admission requirements at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must therefore be born on or after October 1, 1998, and are eligible to sit for JEE Main.
•       SC/ST/PWD candidates, are eligible for 5-year age relaxation and must be born on or after October 1, 1993.
•       The date of birth on the candidate's higher secondary education (10th) certificate will be taken into account.

JEE Main  Academic Qualification

•       Applicants must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) or an equivalent exam from a recognized board/institute in the year or .
•       Candidates who took the 12th class exam in 2020 but did not pass the exam are ineligible to take the exam again, even though they pass the exam later.
•       Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics must be required subjects in the qualifying test.
•       Candidates who take the qualifying exam will also be considered.
•       Candidates who have completed three-year diploma programs will be accepted as well.
•       For the last two years, NTA has removed the minimum 75% eligibility criteria for JEE Main.

JEE Main  Attempts      

•       The number of attempts permitted for JEE Main is limited to three. It means that if a candidate fails to pass JEE main on the first attempt, he or she can take the next two exams.
•       Candidates appearing for both sessions of the same academic year are considered a single attempt and the best of the two scores is used for assigning the ranks.

Valid contact number and email address, credentials and other personal information, payment information, scanned photograph with name and date, and scanned signature on a white page within the 3.5 x 1.5 cm box size are the basic details required to fill JEE Main Application Form.

JEE Main  application Fee Mode of Payment

•       The application fee can be paid via online payment gateways using Debit Card/Credit Card, or Net Banking. 
•       Candidates can also pay the application fee by cash using e-challan at any of the ICICI, Canara, and Syndicate Banks. 

JEE Main  Exam Pattern

JEE Main is conducted for three papers– Paper 1 (B.E/ B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning). No new changes are expected in JEE Main  Exam Pattern.
•       The exam is conducted online as a computer-based test for a duration of 3 hours. 
•       Each correct answer in JEE Main carries a weightage of 4 marks while -1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer (MCQ or numerical-based answer).
