It was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The institute was established with an aim towards excellence in research in basic science at the undergraduate and graduate level with equal emphasis on higher education. The institute follows a bi-semester system, which includes a spring (Jan-May) and autumn (Aug-Dec) semester for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in science. Course 1: BS-MS Dual Degree Program
Duration: 5-year
Eligibility: Intermediate graduate
Offered Majors: Biological, Chemical, Geological, Mathematical and Physical Sciences
Course Fee: INR 46,250 and INR 18,750 for SC/ST/PwD/KM students
Course 2: MS in Space Physics
Duration: 2-year
Eligibility: Graduate in B.E/B.Tech (OR) valid score in either GATE or JEST
Course Fee: INR 46,250 for General and INR 18,750 for SC/ST/PwD/KM students
Selection Criteria: Candidates will be short-listed on the basis of their qualifications and will be called for an interview. Final selection is based on the performance in the interview, academic background of the candidate and any other criterion determined by the selection committee.
Course 3: Integrated Ph.D
Eligibility: B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.B.B.S. or an equivalent degree

IISER Kolkata Facilities
Hostel: 400 seater hostel for both girls and boys, with hostel warden on duty 24/7.
Computer labs: For the course students and research scholars, the section manages a Computer center which has about 50 desktops and some of which are connected to form a small experimental cluster named Meghnad.
Laboratories: IISER-K boasts of world-class equipment both for the teaching and the research laboratories
Medical facilities: At least 20 doctors are assigned to the medical department of the university, which is believed in for the welfare of students as well as the staff members.

IISER Kolkata offers Integrated BS-MS courses at Undergraduate level and MS in Space Physics, iPh.D, Ph.D, and Post-Doctoral Research Programme courses at research level.
Applicants who have passed 10+2 from a recognized board are eligible to apply for the BS-MS (Dual Degree) program offered by IISER, Kolkata.
BS-MS admission is offered through JEE Advanced score, State & Central Board (SCB) channel or KVPY scheme.
Admission to MS by Research program is given to those who hold BE/B.Tech degree in the relevant discipline.
Admission to MS by a research program is given on the basis of candidates’ performance and score obtained in the interview round.
For Integrated Ph.D. program, the candidates with BE/ B.Tech/ B.Sc or MBBS degree with at least 60% marks are eligible for admission.
During the admission to Integrated Ph.D. program, the candidates with a valid score of any national common aptitude tests viz. JAM/ JGEEBILS or JESTare considered.
Applicants with Master’s Degree from a recognized university are considered eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program.
Admission to the Ph.D. program is given solely on the basis of candidates’ merit in the respective PG course and performance in the interview round.
Students with a Ph.D. degree are eligible to apply for the Post Doc program.
Candidates can apply online separately for each course through the Institute’s website. Payment of application fee can be done online only. The application fee is non-refundable.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the eligibility criteria for BS-MS admission is modified as passed Class 12 in any stream from a recognised board with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates)
Candidates are admitted to IISER's BS-MS only through following three channels:
KVPY channel: Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship commencing for current academic session are eligible to apply for admission
JEE Advanced channel: Candidates belonging to General category securing a rank within 10,000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Advanced are eligible to apply. For OBC-NC/ SC/ ST/ PwD candidates, their category rank should lie within 10,000
SCB channel: Students who have passed Class 12 in Science stream are eligible to apply for admissions by appearing for IISER Aptitude Test (IAT), conducted jointly by all seven IISERs. However, they will be considered for admission to the programme only if they obtain the cut-off marks specified for their board
Eligibility
Candidates who have a valid degree in BSc/ BE/ BTech/ MBBS or equivalent in any stream from a recognised institute/ university are eligible.
The institute has distinct allied sciences departments to select the deserving candidates from the pool of applicants based on their aggregate in Class 12, bachelor’s and master’s degree and their performance in an entrance exam and interview, both conducted by the institute itself.

Candidates can go through the following steps on how to apply for admission to IISERs via JEE scores.
Step 1: The candidate will first have to visit the official website of ‘IISERs Admissions’.
Step 2: From there, the candidate will have to click on ‘JEE Application Link’.
Step 3: The candidate will be directed to a new page where they will have to click on ‘Apply Now’.
Step 4: A new tab will open on the browser. The candidate will have to enter the basic details to register themselves first.
