WHAT IS SSC SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT?

SSC Scientific Assistant is a post in the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) that is recruited through the SSC Scientific Assistant IMD Recruitment Exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). 1. Age Limit: Candidates must not be exceeding 30 years of age as of 01.01.2023. Age relaxation is applicable as per the government rules.

2. Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Science (with Physics as one of the subjects)/ Computer Science/Information Technology/ Computer Applications OR a Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from a recognized institution/university.

3. Nationality: Candidates must be either -

a. a citizen of India, 

b. a subject of Nepal,

c. a subject of Bhutan,

d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or e. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

4. Medical Standards: Candidates must meet the medical standards as prescribed by the government.

SSC SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT FEES

The application fee for SSC Scientific Assistant IMD Exam 2022 is Rs. 100/- for General and OBC category candidates. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen category are exempted from payment of the application fee. The fee can be paid online through Debit/Credit card or net banking or through SBI Challan.

SSC SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT EXAM PATTERN

The SSC Scientific Assistant exam pattern consists of two stages:

Stage 1: Computer-Based Examination

•  The CBE will consist of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2.
•  Paper 1 will have 100 multiple choice questions carrying a total of 200 marks, and candidates will have 2 hours to complete the paper.
•  Paper 2 will have 100 multiple choice questions carrying a total of 200 marks, and candidates will have 2 hours to complete the paper.
•  Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will have questions from the following topics: General Intelligence & Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language & Comprehension, and General Awareness.
•  There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Stage 2: Document Verification

•  Candidates who qualify for the CBE will be called for document verification.
•  The final merit list will be prepared based on the performance of the candidates in the CBE.

SSC SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT SYLLABUS

The syllabus for the SSC Scientific Assistant IMD exam 2022 is as follows:

1. General Intelligence & Reasoning: Questions will be asked on topics like analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning.

2. Quantitative Aptitude: Questions will be asked on topics like whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, percentages, ratio and proportion, square roots, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, partnership business, mixture and allegation, time and distance, time & work, basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base.

3. English Language & Comprehension: Questions will be asked on topics like error recognition, filling in the blanks (using verbs, prepositions, articles, etc.), vocabulary, spellings, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion, phrases and idiomatic use of words, comprehension etc.

4. Physics: Questions will be asked on topics like mechanics, electricity and magnetism, electronics and communications, thermodynamics, modern physics, optics, and waves.

5. Computer Science and Information Technology: Questions will be asked on topics like computer organization, data representation, algorithms, programming, operating systems, databases, computer networks, the internet, and web technologies.
